LOS ANGELES -- After a four-day break in the schedule allowed them to stew over a couple of recent losses, Jonathan Quick and the Los Angeles Kings returned to the rink with a determination to keep pace in the tough Pacific Division. New York Yankees Jerseys . Mike Richards and Anze Kopitar scored power-play goals, and Quick earned his first shutout of the season in the Kings 2-0 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. Richards had a goal and an assist for the Kings, who came back from their break with their ninth victory in 13 games. Quick, who made 19 saves in his 26th career shutout, thought Los Angeles responded well to its lengthy stretch of rest and practice. "With the Olympic year, you miss some days here and there with practice and being able to work on the details," said Quick, a possible U.S. national team goalie. "So we had a good three practices where we were able to get some work done." Quick celebrated his 300th NHL game with his first regular-season shutout since last March 18, punctuating the win with a handful of scrambling saves late in the scoreless third period. Quick even kept his brother-in-law, Buffalos Matt Moulson, off the scoresheet. "Having him back there as a defenceman always makes me feel safe," said Drew Doughty, whose pass set up Kopitars goal in the second period. The Kings dropped tough games against Phoenix and Nashville last week. At 10-6, Los Angeles is off to another good start to the season after back-to-back trips to the Western Conference finals -- but good isnt enough in a division featuring Anaheim, San Jose, Phoenix and Vancouver. With Quick leading a solid defensive performance, Los Angeles won without two of its top forwards. Jeff Carter, the Kings top goal-scorer, missed his second straight game with a foot injury, and centre Jarret Stoll sat out for the first time this season with an upper-body injury. Linden Vey made his NHL debut for the Kings in their absence, centring the fourth line with Kyle Clifford and Jordan Nolan. Fellow youngster Tyler Toffoli had an assist for the second straight game since getting called up for the first time this season. Jhonas Enroth stopped 26 shots for the NHL-worst Sabres (3-14-1), who couldnt follow up their stunning win at San Jose with another surprise on their three-game California road trip. Buffalo hasnt won consecutive games all season. "I think we outchanced them in the five-on-five department," Buffalo captain Steve Ott said. "Theyre a good veteran club that is used to playing in those kinds of situations, but I liked our effort tonight. It was the same as in San Jose. Our passion and pride has been way better in the last two games, and thats the way we have to play to have any success in this league." Defenceman Christian Ehrhoff left the Buffalo bench early in the third period with a lower-body injury. Buffalo coach Ron Rolston said Ehrhoff was fine. The Sabres play at Anaheim on Friday night. Buffalo controlled the flow of play early on, but the Kings broke through in the final minute of the first period, with Richards redirecting Jake Muzzins shot from the point for his fourth goal in six games. Kopitar scored during 4-on-3 play midway through the second period, putting a changeup one-timer past Enroth after a slick cross-ice give-and-go with Doughty. Kopitar has goals in three straight games and four in the past six since ending his 26-game regular-season goal drought late last month. "We played well at times in the game, but obviously we put them on the power play too much tonight," Rolston said. "Theyve been together for a long time, so they have continuity in their power play. "Its a 1-0 game, were on the power play, and two minutes later, they have (another power play). Thats not a very good recipe when you want to have a successful night." The Sabres, shut out for the fourth time already this season, hadnt visited Staples Center since Jan. 21, 2010. The Kings open a four-game road trip in Buffalo on Tuesday. NOTES: Moulson and Quick are married to sisters Alicia and Jaclyn Backman. Moulson was in the Kings organization from 2006-09, scoring six goals in 29 games in Los Angeles, but never catching on with the big-league club. Moulson had two goals and four assists in his first four games with the Sabres, who acquired him from the New York Islanders late last month. ... Los Angeles D Robyn Regehr faced Buffalo for the first time since the Sabres traded him to the Kings late last season. ... After Kings F Matt Frattin landed a hard check on Cody McCormick late in the second period, Buffalos 6-foot-8 Tyler Myers challenged the 6-foot Frattin to a fight. Frattin wrestled Myers to the ice, and Myers got an extra penalty for holding. Don Mattingly Jersey . -- Green Bay wide receiver Greg Jennings will be on the sideline as the Packers make their push for a perfect regular season. Greg Bird Jersey .Y. - Carey Price had an early feeling that one goal might be enough to settle the latest matchup between his Montreal Canadiens and longtime Original Six foe, the New York Rangers. http://www.yankeesrookiestore.com/Customized/ . Campbell, playing on loan with Greek club Olympiacos, found the net with a left-footed shot in the 44th minute off a pass from second-half substitute Jorge Rojas to open the scoring at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica.CALGARY -- An ugly goal for the Calgary Flames and goaltender Reto Berra was a thing of beauty for the desperate Edmonton Oilers. From near the corner and below the goal line, David Perron flung the puck towards the net, banking it off Berras shoulder and in for the go-ahead goal as Edmonton snapped a five-game losing streak Saturday night with a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over the Calgary Flames. Boyd Gordon capped the scoring into an empty net as the Oilers stormed back with four unanswered goals in the third period to steal the first of five meetings between the provincial rivals. "Id be kidding if I said I knew I would score but I saw a little bit of room, I put it there and it was in the net so it felt good," said Perron. Just over two minutes earlier, the Oilers tied the game 2-2 on another strange one. Sam Gagners shot deflected off Flames defenceman Dennis Wideman and fluttered high in the air. While Berra couldnt find it, Ales Hemsky batted it in from out of mid-air for his first goal in 12 games. Edmonton started its comeback at 3:41 when Jordan Eberle, who was uncovered in the slot, took a drop pass from Taylor Hall and ripped a shot over Berras blocker. The three-goal barrage happened in a span of 6:42 and came on four shots. "We gave them two goals out of three," said Flames coach Bob Hartley, visibly unhappy. "After 40 minutes, I felt that we gave them nothing. We were playing our style. Then, their first goal and third goal, theres only one word for those two goals - awful." Edmonton (5-15-2), which began the night in last place in the NHL, won for just the second time in its last 12 (2-9-1). Sean Monahan and Wideman scored for Calgary (6-11-3). The Flames are winless in their last six, and are 0-4-1 in their last five games at the Scotiabank Saddledome. "We have a lot of pressure on us from our team itself, from the organization, from the fans, they expect us to win and when youre not winning, it kills the confidence on your team," said Eberle. "You start making plays that youre not used to making, you start squeezing the stick and you start not playing as a team." Eberle himself had been in a lengthy slump with just one goal in his previous 12 games. "Momentum is a huge thing in this game. When things arent going, you sometimes get pissed off and try to do things yourself and thats when things start breaking down even more," said Eberle. "So when you finally get rewarded and get some confidence, were going to use that." Oilers coach Dallas Eakins says the smallest of things can turn around a teams fortunes and he hopes thiss result will provide that boost for his team. Lou Gehrig Jersey. He used Philadelphias recent 3-0-1 run as an example. "We were in a close game with them. We end up losing the game, they had been on the down and out and it seemed like every time I look at the scoreboard lately, theyve been winning," Eakins said. "When you get that winning feeling again, its contagious. Just like when you have that losing feeling, its contagious too." The first of five meetings between the provincial rivals featured the teams ranked 13th and 14th in the Western Conference. The Flames remain three points up on Oilers, although they are 12 points back of a playoff spot. "Great start. In the first two periods, I thought we were the better team. Then, in 10 or 12 minutes, we lost the game, so thats really disappointing and nobody in this locker-room can be happy," said former Oilers defenceman Ladislav Smid. "We have to learn how to finish those kind of games. We knew they have lots of talent over there. We should have just played the same game for 60 minutes, no matter what happened." Devan Dubnyk had a great night for the Oilers making 33 saves to improve to 4-10-1. It comes on the same night that newly signed Ilya Bryzgalov picked up a win in his second AHL conditioning start, allowing only one goal in Oklahoma Citys 4-1 victory over Abbotsford. Making his sixth start in the last seven games, Berra had 19 saves to fall to 1-4-1. Calgary took a 2-0 lead at 17:08 of the second period on a rocket off the stick of Wideman. Dubnyk never saw it as he was screened on the play by Lee Stempniak. Sean Monahan gave the Flames a 1-0 lead at 12:23. It was the first goal in seven games for Calgarys 2013 first round draft pick and just his second in the last 12 after he started the season with six in his first eight. It also marked the first time Calgary held a lead after the first period in three weeks. In the previous eight games, the Flames had been outscored 11-1 in the opening 20 minutes. The game began with a throwback to the old days of the Battle of Alberta as heavyweights Brian McGrattan and Luke Gazdic squared off in a lengthy fight that fired up the crowd. Notes: Healthy scratches for Calgary were RW Tim Jackman and D Sean OBrien... LW Ryan Jones was not in the line-up for Edmonton... After several years of Calgary domination, Edmonton has won five of the last seven games between the two teams ... Flames LW TJ Galiardi hasnt scored in his last 18 games. Also slumping is D TJ Brodie, who has no points in his last eight games... For Edmonton, Nugent-Hopkins has one goal in his last 13 games. ' ' '
